150 3 Days, Election Day, Last Day

Beautiful Majapahit

Beautiful Majapahit

The Hotel Majapahit is really wonderful. So wonderful that the only bottle of wine they had was a Cabernet priced at more than the room. Alas, we drank beer and dreamed of better days to come.

We had breakfast with the Family. More goodbyes then a call from Charles. “Stay in our home when you reach Jakarta.” What a wonderful gesture from almost strangers.

Cat began researching and found that the only train  will take 12 hours. That set Cat to conniving. She convinced me that we don’t need to see Jakarta, or be on a train on election day.

Cat started with the girls in the office center. They tried but just weren’t Travel Agents. So, she fired off an e-mail to Travel agent Sandy in Ventura. We’re going with plan B, fly from Surabaya to Singapore on Election day. (There’ve already been 5 deaths in the election run up.) The staff urged us not to go out on the streets.

Sandy got us booked on ValuAir, we received the message just before out last beautiful breakfast here at Majapahit. Cat arranged a van through the Hotel.

Of course there was an airline screwup. They wouldn’t accept our e-ticket booking number. The bad news, we had to buy more tickets. The good news, due to the delay and problems they let the bikes fly for free. No charge for excess baggage. Also, due to the last minute shuffle we also got bulk head seats that ValuAir charges $12 extra for the extra leg room. Whoop-Dee-Doo.

Hello Cat & Pat!
Chriss & me (the 2 bartenders from Lake Batur) are back to Germany since 1 week and everyday routine just began right away. I was so impressed by the beauty of the balinese culture. Our trip ended in Java. We visited the Borobodur Temple, that was very impressing. I liked the nature in Java: Jungle, ricepaddies, vulcanos. We took a 7 hour train ride from Yogyakarta to Jagkarta. So a long time with the green view. The cities were no joy. Quite dirty! So we ended up in a Ibis-Hotel: air-con, clean, quiet. But also no birdsounds, no muslim prayer call, nothing. Strange! Keep going, dears! Petra

Hello to you and Chriss. YOu can see our trip on the site but a HIGH POINT for us (Other than meeting you) was our Mt. Bromo. The best mountain moment is the little video of Mt. Batur morning. The sight and sound of the birds brings us back to that moment.
Stay in touch, maybe visit us in California someday?
