148 Drying & Seperating Rice from Chafe
This is a common scene. Farmers spread the rice on canvas in the sun, to dry. This woman rakes and turns the grains to insure uniform drying.
This woman takes rice with chafe on and flips it in the screened bottom bamboo container. Each time she flips the grain up the lighter chafe stays in the air as the grain drops to the container. An age old process.
We began calling this guy the Village Rice Boss. He was talkative and expressive. When we started taking pictures he called out as if to tell the workers what to do. Maybe the boss or perhaps just a retired elder throwing his weight around?
