This tried and true beast of burden or at least of plow pulling is being replaced here. We would see many of them lounging of grazing but it is a one man track tractor that seems to be doing most of the work in the terraces. Isn’t this beast THE IMAGE that most of us have of Southeast Asia?

Shy Carver

Wood carving shops began to line the highway. Being close to the source of wood was our guess. However we didn’t see many signs of carving in them? They were doing touch up or coloring. We began to feel that most of the heavy carving was being done at a factory?

We asked the proprietor for a photo. He nodded approval but when I got the camera out his daughter turned shy then he too turned away.
