The Hop On, Hop Off bus is a good way to get to know a place. Since we’re running out of time we bought tickets. The bus lurches and rolls past places important, historic and interesting.

Our first stop was to be Raffles Long Bar, the very spot where around the turn of the century 1900 the famous Singapore Sling was invented.

As we jumped off the bus it began to sprinkle. This fine looking Sikh gentleman greeted us and pointed the way to the Long Bar.

And so it was that we found “The Long Bar”, historic long bar and ordered up a couple of slings. We were in good company, must have been 2 bus loads of other tourists, mostly Brits and Aussies.

The experience was good, not cheap but good. The cost, 54 Singapore Dollars, that’s almost $20 US for each. Hey, history ain’t cheap and this is our moment in history. Oh, the Sling was pretty good, too. And they threw in the tiniest peanuts you’ve ever seen as a bonus. You eat them and are invited to throw the shells on the floor. Now that’s fun, eh?

The rest of the Hop On, Hop Off was drenched in buckets of rain accompanied by brilliant lightening and heart pounding thunder. We saw the remainder of sights through wet windows.
