205 It Ain’t Easy, Leaving Bangkok!

501-jin-eckhardtWe loved our stay at Hotel Aurum. The extra day and help from Eckhard (right) and hospitality of Jin (left) made it exceptional.

Good people, good food, good but expensive wine. What’s not to love?

Well the “Ain’t Easy” part started when JIn and Eckhardt tried to explain the best route out of town.  It was all down hill from there.

502-bicycling-out-of-bangkokWe think our first right was a turn to the wrong. Today is a holiday so traffic was light, at first. Then we were stuck in construction zone gridlock. By the time we began to suspect the turn for the worse we were way south of Bangkok.

A nice young couple in a coffee stand tried to set us straight. Damn we hate to backtrack. Then, we passed a Novotel and rolled another 6 Ks only to learn that it was the final place to stay for miles. So, another backtrack and we found that the 70Ks we’d just struggled through had only taken us 24 Ks from central Bangkok.

Thanks Alastair, that is a HUGE compliment coming from one who has traveled many of the same trails.
We’re not as dedicated to the wheels as before but we do love the places and people.
Next time you’re in California make our place one of your stops. We must make it back by June 28 to celebrate Cat’s dad, Earl’s 90th Birthday.
Tomorrow we cycle into Vietnam and Ho Chi Min City from Cambodia.
