117 Meet the Ogoh-Ogoh

Ohog-Ogoh

The Ogoh-Ogoh begin to appear at dusk. They are paper mache dolls or monsters sybolizing evil spirits. They are paraded along the streets, carried by groups of boys or men. It’s boystous and at times physical as some of the guys try to grab an Ogoh and run. I was almost run down in one of these scuffles.

This red monster was carried by young boys. they looked to be ages 8-10. They were very excited to ba a part of this crazy celebration.  

Stealing an Ogoh-Ogoh

Maybe a competition or were these guys just spoilers? In the cover of darkness there were sounds of a scuffle then shouting as these two came running past with part of an Ogoh-Ogoh monster in tow. In my attemtp to get a photo I was almost swept away by Ogoh, himself.
