290 Rain Delay, Wet Ride, Van to Hue

462-clunker-tohueWe awoke to the sound of heavy rain. A fine included breakfast but no break in the downpour. We’d decided to give up and hire a van if it hadn’t stopped by noon.

By 11:00 it had slowed to a drizzle. Cat knew that I wanted to ride. This was to be our final day of cycling in Vietnam. We gave it a valiant try. At 2:00 PM we pulled in to a small family operated cafe. We had our rain slickers on but the sweat left our cloths as wet as the drizzle would have. Noodles then we took the bags off and flagged down a van.  Bikes on the top, the bags and two boomers jammed in with the locals, then the bargaining began. We agreed with 125,000 Dong, about $6.75. When we neared the center of Hue the wife of driver said, “200,000 Dong”. Big arguement, they dropped us very near the river in downtown Hue. After a few words we settled on 150,000 D, less than $10.00.
