Surviving Ogoh-Ogoh

Surviving Ogoh-Ogoh

Leaving The Breezes paradise was made simple by friends Richard and his brother. They are Aussie ex-pats, Web-Masters and building a hotel. Richard drew a detailed map. Starting, we went down a local street and ran into this survivor from Nyepi.

Onward, just as we found the highway a topless woman walked by. She was looking through trash and picking green leaves. Probably a real looker in her day, she was now in the twilight years of her life. I took her photo then we gave her a hand full of coins. She smiled then a van pulled up and the driver honked and gave us a thunbs up. Just one small story of the day.

Traffic is intense but orderly. We start going south, the wrong direction to find the best route. Then the road loops west past the beaches then to the north and hills.

The brothers had told us to turn at the ungodly looking statue. Turns out to be some kind of Hindu God?

A quick stop at Big Mac for a cool drink then we pedaled hard, up. Into the outskirts of Ubud for a late lunch at a very CA or Colorado Cafe. Perhaps built and operated by a disciple of Elizabeth Gilbert after reading her best seller, “Eat, Pray, Love”. She found love here in Ubud. The brothers say that the little artsy town has seen a surge in tourism since the book became so popular.
