133 Slow Boat to Java

Goodbye Bali

Goodbye Bali

April 1, 2009. We were no April Fools for taking the past 7 days to explore a sampling of Bali. We can’t say that we fell in love with her but we did find certain joys in the journey. The best of it as usual, the people. From the relaxed Hindu lifestyle to the people on the streets and those who we spent time with both locals and tourists.

Nypei and the Ogoh-Ogoh will always remind us of Seminyak. Ari and the pickup ride up to Mt.Batur and the German girls are memories we will treasure. The best of it may have been meeting Chris and Kate.

Ferry to Java

Ferry to Java

Change is obvious on the Ferry. The passengers are friendly but definitely Muslim. This part of Indonesia is all about Allah. We cycled in to Banywangi, checked one hotel then moved on looking for better and hoping for English language TV. We found half, the place was clean. The quest for wine had us riding 2 Ks into Bangyuwangi. A waste of energy, they only had warm Bintang Beer. Then the 2K ride back in the gathering gloom.
