059 The Bataan Penninsula
- Rice Harvest
March 5, 2009, The Bataan Panninsula is a stubby, thick peice of rock and dirt seprated from Luzon by the Manila Bay. It is hot, inhospitable, mountainous and a tough bike ride. So WHY DO IT?
One of the most horrific stories of WWII was the Bataan Death March. I wanted to know more about this moment in history and the brutality of war. When we began our ride we recieved an e-mail from friend, Joe. He told us that he’d been here and participated in a peace walk along the path of this March of Death.
Why were the Japanese so brutal? How far and how long did the poor GIs have to march toward their deaths?
