The Breezes Resort

The Breezes Resort

After a sultry hour and half in dust and fumes we turned toward the beach and discovered The Breezes. Not the kind of place we would usually chose and the prices were strange. $90 for tonight then $130 for the next two including breakfast AND on Thursday, lunch and dinner, too.

Onward, with the search. We found the Oberoi and Sofitel, way too expensive. A few smaller places weren’t our cup of tea either. So after 3 hot dusty  hours we returned to the Breezes. A second look revealed why the strange pricing. Thursday is Nyepi, Hindu New Year. Beginning at midnight no one is allowed out. Residents stay in contemplating lst year and preparing for the new. Electricity is stopped and no food or water is consumed for the next 36 hours. May ex-pats move into the hotel to avoid the hardships. This place turned out to be an oasis and reasonably priced when you add in food. Then too, they serve beers and we found enough wine to survive Nyepi.
