195 The Main Artery

If the Grand Palace is the heart and soul of Bangkok the Mae Nam Chao Phraya River is her main artery. From sunup to sundown the boats full of passengers and freight are moving up and down.

The passenger boats are fun but more than that, they are essential transportation for daily life in Bangkok. And, they are a cheap ride. Only 18 Baht (about 50 cents) and you can go all the way to the end of the line. They are crammed with locals during the morning and evening rush hour it’s standing room only.
