104 Finally, Miri

Miri Evening

Miri Evening

We stopped at the EZ Market on the outskirts of Miri for lunch. Then, the search for a hotel. We’d read about the Marriott. I wanted to be among gringos. Cat wanted to be in town. Town it was and late we visited the Marriott and I was quite happy with the choice. The Mega Hotel is more a business mans place but very central. The Guest Services Manager, Julian took us under his wing, helped us find places and how to use the public buses.

There is a Food Court just across the street. We tried it and ate all but one of our lunchand dinners there. Not like a food court you’d think of in a mall, it is just a cluster of small stands serving everything from typical Malaysian to Philippine to Indian and several other choices. The staff is great, we fell in love with the food as well as Mary and T-Rex, both from the Philippines.

You two are really amazing. I thought you would have had enough of biking when you left Salt Lake City and made that long haul to the summit. We’re following you.
Good Luck and keep on pumping. As for me, i think i’ll go for a short walk tomorrow.

Pat, what happens to your shoulder?

My Brother (YOUNGER) Roberto

I fell, OUCH. Old guys like us should never fall off a bicycle. Nothing broken but still painful. We elders also heal more slowly.

We’re on the Island of Java, Indonesia. Hot and humid. Cycled about 30 miles today then stopped in a small place. Time change from Bali to here. I could use a beer but can’t start until after 5:00 PM. Awe the suffering we world travelers must endure. By the way, no wine here. We will hve to sit and sip a glass or two when we get back home. Our love to Martha, Nathan and the girls.

How great to hear from you two. This comes to you from Genteng, Indonesia. Tomorrow we cycle up hillo in 85/85 weather. (85 degrees, 85% humidity) We will think of you walking in a cool springtime day.
We’re staying well, so far. Only hope that we find a wondrous place like Brigrham Street Inn if we do. NOt too likely in this part of the world.

Hi Mark

We’re in Melaka, Malaysia tonight. Hard ride, 100 Ks, 60 miles in heat and humidity.
Felt great to get here. Love the feeling of accomplishment when we finish a particulary tough day.
How did you find us and what info are you looking for?
