098 Leena and Nina

Nina, our new Friend

Makng friends when you’re language handicapped can be a problem. It’s always great to find an English speaking someone who wants to talk. Here in Tutong we were blessed with two. 

We lunced at TyTy Chicken and took advantage of their free wifi. Dinner and breakfast in the Hotel was served by Leena. She had enough English to tell us that she is from Jakarta and has lived and worked here for 3 years. She was quite happy to tell us that she would be going back home in May. We got a feeling she was sort of indentured here?

Nina had great English skills and was talkative. She wanted to know everything about us. Her story was short and sweet. She asked us to guess her age. We told her 20. She proudly told us, “I 17.” Sweet 17 and she was a sweetheart. A high school grad, she will attend college next year. She loves working at the hotel because she wants to meet people. She was thrilled with us because of our mode of transportation. She told us that they don’t get foreign visitors, especially a Grandfather and Grandmother who are riding bicycles.  A very heads up young girl!
